Hotels in Mindanao

THERE are lots of hotels in Davao and Cagayan de Oro. Both are the largest cities in Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippine archipelago. Between the two cities , Davao is the larger city than Cagayan de Oro. But both cities offer less expensive five-star hotels for tourists who want to stay here and be practical, there are also less expensive ones.

In Cagayan de Oro, Limketkai Group is planning to construct a seven-level hotel here but scratch that, there are lots of quality hotels existing in the city already. In fact, the tallest structure in Cagayan de Oro is the seven-story Maxandrea Hotel. For starters, Maxandrea Hotel’s elevator is transparent and one can have an awesome view of the city while one slowly goes up.

Another great hotel here is Hotel Koresco. It is located uptown far away from the bustle of traffic and near a suburb so the quality of air that you breathe here is definitely excellent. Hotel Koresco is a South Korean-inspired hotel so there’s a taste of South Korean food.

Located nearby is the plush Xavier Sports and Country Club. Although it is not a hotel, it has its own guest house for VIPs. The guest house has its own elegant service fit for a king. Speaking of reality, Pryce Plaza Hotel has its own presidential suite. The presidential suite is used by the president of the country whenever she’s in the city for a visit but it may be used by other guests who can afford it.

Of course, Davao City has its own share of pleasurable places of stay. The most recognizable one which dots the city skyline is the Marco Polo Hotel. Marco Polo’s reputation in Davao City is so stamped that it has its own branch in Cebu City .

Dakak Park Beach Resort

I’ve been to Dakak last weekend and it was a totally exhilarating experience. Of course, I’ve been there more than once already but going there time and again still seems to be the first time. The beach was indeed full of happy people as it is the first of summer. Many ladies strip down to their bikinis without inhibition and I gamely joined them of course with my super friends (there were five of us and we go a long way back.

We did not just enjoy sunbathing, we also had the fun of our lives as I tried both kayaking and jet-skiing for the first time. At first, I was a little bit nervous as all first-timers do but when my super friends prodded me along, excitement took over and I vroomed the jet ski as I enjoyed the waves attempting to splash my already tanned body. Later, I tried the more subdued kayaking with my ever trusted chum Carol riding shotgun and we awkwardly paddled away but of course we stayed close to shore because we were quite nervous.

As we retreated towards the evening after dinner, I tried their sauna. Emerging from it, I felt totally refresh and I enjoyed dancing the night away.

Cheap flights

WITHOUT doubt, the most affordable cheap air flight out there is Ryanair, the flag carrier of Ireland. Like Richard Bramson’s Virgin Airlines, Ryanair is fortunate to have at its helm a very eccentric yet business-minded person. I kinda forgot his name but the way he did business in the past decade is way too cool.

In this economic crisis, Ryanair has the best cheap flights and cheap tickets for any destination not just in Ireland, and the United Kingdom but all across Western Europe, including Germany . Ryanair’s presence is surely felt even through the most obscure cities in England only English people know.

However, it’s not just Ryanair which offers cheap flights. Airlines going to such island destinations as Palma de Mallorca and Seychelles are relatively inexpensive and offer cheap tickets. It’s easy to canvass such cheap tickets online. There is that ever reliable Google.

Now let’s go tropical. Tropical destinations such as Boracay and Phuket do have airlines which offer cheap flights. Unlike the 747 or even the Airbus, these airlines use only small planes so definitely, the tickets are cheap. Some of the examples of these airlines are Subic Air and Asian Spirit. Everywhere you go in the world, there are always cheap flights awaiting you.
